For Cheerilee, it was just the end of another school day. Her students had been dismissed for the day, leaving it up to the earth pony mare approaching middle age to gather her things and head home. There were no after school activities taking place that required the use of the schoolhouse. And per EEA rules, it was to remain locked up when not in use. How many years now had she been at this? Thirty years? Thirty five? Maybe even forty? Cheerilee couldn't remember, it seemed like only yesterday she had taken on the job of running the Ponyville schoolhouse. She had seen a few generations of Ponyville ponies in her time, each memorable in their own unique way. You wouldn't be able to tell just by looking at her that she was starting to reach her fifties. There were no gray streaks in her mane and tail, her eyes remained vibrant and full of color, and she carried herself as if she were only half her age. Cheerilee couldn't help but giggle at the thought that she was older than she looked.

"Good morning, Twily!" Princess Celestia cooed as she nudged her fellow alicorn awake, standing right beside the padded princess' bed with that big, motherly smile. Twilight immediately reached out her hooves and hugged the sun princess, cooing back in a happy and playful tone. "Good morning, Mommy," She then used her horn to grab Smarty Pants, all the while asking the elder alicorn. "What are we going to do today?" Celestia's smile grew brighter as she watched Twilight climb out of bed, proudly displaying that padded posture of hers. Even with how long it had been since they'd started this mother/daughter roleplaying, the warm and fuzzy feelings had never faded. It helped that Twilight always looked so cute in her diapers no matter what she did. She then said to the younger princess. "You'll see soon enough, Twily." “So you never knew about Mindy or about Spike’s egg, you were just as in the dark as we were,” Rainbow Dash realized as Cadence’s flashback ended. “But if you found out later, why didn’t you tell us? Or at least tell Twilight?” Princess Cadence confessed. “I felt it wasn’t my place to say. I wanted to wait for Spike to ask the question naturally. And once Flurry Heart came along, it just sort of slipped my mind unintentionally,” Turning to Spike, she apologized. “I know that’s not an excuse for keeping you in the dark for so long. Helping Twilight care for you as a baby gave me lots of experience that prepared me well for when I had Flurry Heart. You were like family to me even before I married Shining Armor. And I should’ve told you sooner, rather than wait for Aunt Celestia to tell you.” Cadence suddenly felt something hug her chest. It had only been a day or so since a dragon named Sludge had shown up in Ponyville, claiming to be Spike’s father. It soon turned out that he wasn’t, he’d just been making it up. And while Spike was happy that he wasn’t related to a dragon as greedy and lazy as Sludge, a part of him was still saddened at the fact that he was once again left with no leads to his past. He still had no idea where exactly he’d come from, or why his egg had been given to Twilight as a filly. Well, there was only one thing to do! Spike was certain there was one pony who could provide him with the answers he was seeking. Hastily writing a note and leaving it next to his basket, he slipped out of the castle. He was going to leave Ponyville and head to Canterlot, determined to get some answers! Thank goodness he had wings now, because he wasn’t sure he would’ve been able to take the train without Twilight or somepony else finding out and catching him. "Achoo!" Rarity paused momentarily in her work and sniffled as another blast from her irritated sinuses proved to be too much for her nose to keep in.
